Your Best Friend - Precious, Semiprecious or Lab Gemstones
Jewelries these days have many different styles
and designs. They can be adorned with gemstones or not or be made
from precious metals or not. These gemstones and precious metals
can be all-natural, manmade or even an ingenious combination of
both. Jewelry is a popular art form, but more commonly, it is
used to display someone’s wealth.
On top of all these, it is a functional form of
body ornament. A pair of glittering diamond earrings will never
fail to fill a woman’s heart with encompassing happiness.
It will surely make her feel like she’s the most beautiful
woman in the world.
“Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”
sings Nicole Kidman in her blockbuster movie, Moulin Rouge. Indeed,
these precious stones are rare and are quite pricey because of
the overwhelming demand for them. But still, everybody wants one,
so that is why there are a variety of “lab gems” or
synthetic gemstones that are now being manufactured to compete
with those precious stones.
Semiprecious Stones Versus Manmade Gemstones
There are agate, amethyst, garnet, jade, lapis-lazuli,
moonstone, turquoise, and rose quartz to name a few of the semiprecious
stones. Semiprecious stones are usually used by jewelers to produce
bold, grand and colorful designs that add beauty to a simple yet
precious metal such as gold and silver. Most people use jewelry
with semiprecious stones to complement their clothes or costumes
and to show off their wealth.
Laboratory-grown gemstones or manmade stones are
the synthetic stones, but they have physical, chemical, spectral,
and optical qualities that are almost the same as those of the
mined gemstones. Cubic zirconia, which are those that resemble
diamonds and are made to look exactly like one, is a type of laboratory-grown
gemstone. They look almost like a real diamond but come at a cheaper
price. There are also emerald, ruby, amethyst, opal, and diamond
synthetic gemstones.
Are They for You?
You might think that semiprecious stones and laboratory
gemstones are cheap and worthless because they can be inexpensive
and are readily available anywhere unlike precious stones like
genuine diamonds, which are rare and can only be afforded by the
rich people. But so what? Wearing jewelry, may it be of precious,
semiprecious or manmade gemstones, is a matter of how you carry
yourself. They do not make you into who you are.
As long as a jewelry emphasizes the clothes you're
wearing, they are considered to be doing what they were created
for in the first place. Who cares if they're genuine or manmade?
